A River Runs Through Us
This year we will seek to step into the vision God has for the church. A River Runs Through Us is intended to communicate the truth that we do not exist as a reservoir of the grace of God. Rather our calling is to be the means by which God’s love and grace flow through us into the world.
In John 4, Jesus, while speaking to the Samaritan woman, offers her living water, describing its “living” nature as “a well of water springing up to eternal life.” What we witness next is how what Jesus pours into this woman flows out of her into her village. Her life was transformed for the sake of her community.
In Ezekiel 47 the prophet depicts a scene of water flowing out of the presence of God and transforming the world. Life springs up wherever the river flows. Jesus had that same effect in his ministry, and he equips us to participate in his work.
“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ ” John 7:38
I want that for my life. I want that for yours as well.
